Reading 'Machines' means spending a lot of time with Mink Jolle, the 'metal guy'. The Sci-Fi-novel is plotted in the state of 'Freelandia' where Mink tries to avenge his friend.

Not wanting to go deeper into the story at least I have to stress the ability of the author to form a strong character: whatever you'll think about the story itself - it's fantastic to go along with Mink for a while.

So, great job. Four stars!

This was a great book. The characters and story were well developed and it made it a joy to read. I look forward to reading more in this series.

*I received a copy of this book for free. The review is my own, honest and unsolicited.

The story's plot up to the point I reached, was very slow and boring. It was quite confusing at times too, and just didn't really make sense to me. I really wish that I could have enjoyed this novel, but it just wasn't at a good pace and there just wasn't enough plot elements (ha, get it?) for my personal preference.… (más)

This was not the book for me. I actually didn't finish it. I kept pushing until about a quarter to a third of the way but had to stop. The premise was interesting and I thought the magic system was pretty cool, too, but the writing style was really frustrating for me. The pace of this book was just too slow, and the author focused really heavily on the minutiae of what was happening. For people who are interested in following a character through their day and through each of their actions and associated motivations and thoughts, this book might be a good match. For me, there was just not enough action to get me interested.… (más)
