In search for a Heroine's Journey in literature, as opposed to the Hero's Journey so often found, Gwen sets out on her own Heroine's Journey while also somehow interacting with her ancestor Guin who's trapped in the Middle Ages as she's trying very hard not to become England's next queen.

I hope you can see when looking at the above description I was a bit confused with the story. Or at least, it didn't really make a lot of sense to me. I missed some explanations as to what was going on. I mean, if they were able to communicate because Gwen is Guin's descendent, then why does she only see Guin? There must have been many generations before her. Why not them?

It was a very quick and fast paced read, I finished it in a few hours. The stories of the two girls were, when I managed to distinguish between them as their names are so similar, okay, although they were quite standard. The Medieval girl who wants to have a choice. I though Gwen lost focus on the Heroine's Project very fast in favour of the romance sub-plot. Unfortunately.

All in all, it had a great premise, but I'm not sure I like the execution...

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I wanted to like this book. I hate giving lower star reviews. To some degree, I did. In others, I found myself struggling to continue on to avoid a DNF.

Initially, the book felt a bit disjointed and stuttered. I had a bit of trouble catching the somewhat back and forth of Gwen and Guin, but after a bit, it became more clear and that they had a connection. It was interesting to see how each of them related to the other and the challenges they faced, giving each other the insight. I realized I really enjoyed reading/ hearing/ discovering things revolving around Guin, they seemed to be much more alive and vibrant than Gwen, who seemed a bit lackluster and had less dimensions to her.

I do like the storyline, how Gwen set out to find a the Heroine's Journey, as opposed to the Hero. I just wished that I personally could have gotten more immersed in it.

I loved the front cover of this book, was intrigued with the premise but hated the writing style. It felt forced and extremely immature, and about halfway through I finally gave up. Very disappointing!

I was thinking this might be a modern-day Wrinkle in Time for the kids to read, but it wasn't quite there, didn't quite grab in the same way.
It seemed a little more haphazard, random, and the characters didn't grab me the way I thought they might or might grab the kids.
