- German mathematician. First to state a generalization of Cantor's Continuum Hypothesis. Author of "Grundzüge der Mengenlehre", the first comprehensive introduction to set theory. The mathematical concepts of Hausdorff Measure and Hausdorff Dimension are named for him. Persecuted as a Jew by the Nazis during WWII. Committed suicide in 1942 when faced with being sent to a concentration camp.
