British journalist, editor, and historian Max Hastings was born on December 28, 1945. He was a foreign correspondent for BBC television and London's Evening Standard, for which he later served as editor from 1996 to 2001. Hastings also worked as editor and editor-in-chief of The Daily Telegraph. In mostrar más addition to presenting BBC historical documentaries and writing numerous books of military history, Hastings has contributed to publications including the Daily Mail, The Guardian, and the New York Review of Books. He received the nonfiction Somerset Maugham Award for Bomber Command, as well as the Yorkshire Post Book of the Year Prize for both Overlord and The Battle for the Falklands. His title Catastrophe 1914: Europe Goes to War made The New York Times Best Seller List in 2013. The Secret War: Spies, Ciphers, and Guerrillas, 1939-1945 was published in 2016 and is also on the New York Times Bestsellers List. Hastings was knighted in 2002, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and from 2002-2007 was President of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. (Bowker Author Biography) mostrar menos

Vietnam: An Epic Tragedy, 1945-1975 por Max Hastings
Una completa historia de la guerra de Viet nam desde los franceses hasta la reunificación del país. Muy buena, documentada y ratifica la tesis de Barbara Tuchman desarrollada en la marcha de la locura. Todos decían que no había que meterse porque se perdía pero se metieron igual
Interesante libro sobre el frente olvidado del Pacífico. Tremenda recopliación de información con entrevistas a participantes, tal vez eso lo haga un poco pesado por la reiteración de opiniones sobre un mismo tema, pero lo hace un libro de consulta para este tema.
Buena obra sobre Malvinas, agil. Tal vez demasiado basada en fuentes inglesas, y sin ninguna consulta a las argentinas. Pareciera que fue escrita algo apurada, y por eso la unilateralidad de las fuentes. Salvo eso muy interesante
Una decripción clara de la Inglaterra enfrentando una guerra que comienza siendo un imperio y termina como potencia de segundo órden. En el medio la figura de Winston, que con sus errores, virtudes, excesos es quien salva la ropa de una Inglaterra decadente y mediocre. SI bien el autor se detiene y señala con crudeza toda la serie de errores de Churchill cuando le toca hacer el resumen y las conclusiones, no existe otro mejor que él entre los dirigentes ingleses y mundiales de la segunda guerra. bueno… (más)
