First published in 1888, this book gives an account of the life of Oliver Cromwell. I have always found Cromwell an interesting subject and really enjoyed another view of this man. With quotes from Cromwell himself the author shows that Cromwell was probably a man ahead of his time, and surely it would have better for Cromwell 'to rule' rather than England suffer under the Restoration of Charles II.
A thoroughly enjoyable read.

In this collection of essays on books worth reading, the author exhorts the reader to have a care and be judicious in the choices they make of books to read. Some books can be damaging to ones ethics and morals. Harrison provides the reader with the obligatory list of books that he considers worthy of the time spent in reading them. It would also be enlightening if he had given us a list of books that in his opinion would contribute to moral and decay. There a a number of other essays on more general topics of interest to readers of 19th century writers.… (más)
