This was one of my Kindle FirstReads picks, and it did not disappoint! Starts off slow, but once it gets going, it does not let you go and the author hits you with one twist after another and pulls you in all different directions. Just when you think you know what's going on...another twist hits you.

Its written from Susan's POV, in first person, and alternates between her current life and events from 15 years ago. The past and present tie together very nicely.

Just that...Susan and Paul are not very likeable characters, but perhaps that was the point? I struggled to relate to any character in the story, but boy are those two bats**t crazy! The ending was fitting for both of them, I thought.

Left me breathless and feeling a little bittersweet. Once the events start spiraling out of control, it was hard to put the book down. Would read other books by Ms. Harris!

I liked that the blurb didn’t give away most of the plot but did what a good blub should do...made me really want to read this book. I went through a wide range of emotions while reading this book… at times I was on-edge, anxious, surprised, shocked and sometimes quite confused having no clue to what was happening...sometimes all at the same time...yet I never wanted to stop reading. At first, I thought that the author had made some huge mistakes because it seemed that things just weren't adding up. If you read this...don't give up because you will soon realize that it was all intentional. This may not sound like a good thing, but it was, it really, really was. The story will soon have the reader wondering who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy. I read a lot of this genera and usually am pretty good at coming to the right conclusion, but I have to admit that I couldn’t figure out who to trust and I kept changing my mind every few pages. It's not a dark violent horror story like you might have come to expect of a psychological thriller. It’s more about human emotions and coping with loss. The book literally explores in a broad range of emotions.… (más)

Looking at this book's reviews, people either loved or hated it. I think I'm in the middle. It does get crazy when Susan's despicable plan starts to play out, and there are certainly no redeeming qualities in any of the characters. But the WOW and the OH Sh*T factors were there and kept me reading. I guess I like plots that are unpredictable and maybe a little off the wall although the end was somewhat disappointing. I really wanted Susan to pay a little more for her sins. I can't say more without spoilers, so I'll stop here.… (más)

Review:

"Under Lying" by Janelle Harris:

My Rationalization:

What a read that was of definitely one psychological, mystery-thriller with suspense that will keep you turning the pages to see what was coming now and then where we find the heroine [Susan] and the flashbacks. These flashbacks had to do with the death of Susan's twin brother, Adam dying on their 21st birthday, her mother who was very distant to her, friends, neighbors and most of all the person that had killed her brother.

The story may have been a slow start but I will say by the end of this novel I was blown away with all of the unexpected twists, turns and ride this author took the reader on. After reading the entire novel I thought of this story as a two-part story that wonderfully comes together by the end of the read as the author brings in the 'now and then' of the story chapters.

I will say I was left in awe of it all when the story does come together leaving one to wonder just how far one would go to take revenge against a person that had wronged them. Be ready for a little bit of it all from friendship, motherhood to a crazy person with a few more plot surprises that will also come out.

The storyline was quite intriguing along with some really interesting characters development with some being simple to complex in the unexpected behaviors and actions they displayed. All in all, I did find the story rather believable and well-written that would definitely keep your interest in the read because almost any time one reads about a missing child it becomes of great need to know the outcome as this author will give it all to the reader in "Under Lying." I will say in the epilogue that did surprise me however, I was left feeling that it was best for the child who raised her. Now, to get it all you must pick up this good read to see how well this author delivers an unforgettable story to the readers.

I downloaded this book as one of Amazon's free monthly First Reads and did find the story rather interesting.
