I spent eighteen months in New Zealand a decade or so ago now, on a working holiday that saw me take in almost all of New Zealand, from Invercargill in the chilly south, to north of Auckland in the chilly north and most chilly places in between. I spent most of my New Zealand sojourn in Wellington; truly the coldest, wettest and windiest place I have ever visited. I can't blame that on the "Rough Guide to New Zealand" though.

Book two of the Apocalypse series picks up where book one left off. SG-1 is trying to figure out what happened during their gate back, learning what happened in the time that they missed and discovering allies and enemies. Which is not as easy as it sounds. You would think right away that the Wraith would be the enemy, but no. There's a much more dangerous enemy which leads SG-1 to joint forces with the Wraith. And all through the book, O'Neill's willingness to disband SG-1 haunts the group and the reader. Then when you can take no more, you come to the end of the book. For me that ending was quite the shocker. I was left just staring at the page and I imaging that was exactly how SG-1 felt. It's a direct hit to your gut.
To be continued in Book Three.
