An interesting read with a feeling of authenticity to it. However, much of it does not stand up to historical investigation - especially the construction of a corvette in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Which is why I classify it as fiction, albeit based on the author's own experiences.
By the way I would love to be proven wrong ...

This is not your typical biography, it runs more to a fictionalized personal memoir in which the title character, in this case Bond creator Ian Fleming, wanders in and out at appropriate times. This reads like your spending an evening in the pub (or more likely in a good restaurant) with Harling while he regales you with stories of his old friend. As such it’s full of mid-20th Century British society slang and references that may bypass the modern reader. In places it’s also frustratingly vague and it’s not for the easily offended as it’s very frank at times. Overall I’d say this is more of a curiosity piece for those interested in how Fleming was viewed by one of his contemporaries.… (más)
