Penny Haren

Having never heard of pieced applique, I was intrigued by this new method of block construction. I was disappointed to see that Ms. Haren was making basic block patterns by piecing part of it and then appliqueing the rest. The purpose for the technique is to gain accuracy in your sewing by eliminating inset points and curves. Since I feel that I don't have a problem attaining accuracy, I doubt that I will use the technique. Besides, I feel that a quilter should master both piecing and applique separately.

There are patterns for 7 foundation blocks: half square triangle, pinwheel, four patch, set on point, quarter square triangle, kaleidoscope and bright hopes. In addition, there are patterns for 25 pieced applique blocks as well as instructions for completing a quilt with all of the blocks.… (más)
