Biografía breve
CARLOTTA HACKER is the author of more than 20 books. She was born in England and evacuated to Canada during the Second World war. Her first career was as a historical researcher at London University. She then worked her way around the world, and on an Easter Island expedition met Canadian filmmaker Hector J. Lemieux, whom she later married. From then on she had three careers: writer, filmperson, and editor. She lives in London, Ontario.

This is an excellent series of books focusing on important female figures in history. This edition focuses on women scientists in a variety of fields, from biology to astronomy.

I am ashamed to admit that I didn't know who many of these very important women were. I think that texts like this are particularly valuable, not only because they inform and educated children but just as often the educate the parents too. Certainly that was the case this time. This book discusses the lives and contributions of various female scientists. There are six females featured in this book, as well as short biographies of many more at the end of the book. This would be good for a teacher to read to her students if she wanted to feature the work of one of the scientists. It would most likely not be a good one for a classroom library because it would probably not gain much interest from the students. However, it could be used to create a lesson from, or for research projects on scientists. I rated it a 4/5 based on the fact that it is a good reference book and biography, but would most likely not engage the children’s interests for a classroom library piece.… (más)
