A very entertaining read. This is a thriller with a lot of plot threads and characters which interweave throughout the book, with the tying together at the end being quite effective, but a little bit rushed. If I tell you that the plot involves Bin Laden, samurai warriors, Chu-chi tunnel rats, hobos riding the rails, the murder of a US marine in London, the CIA, the FBI, etc you will get a feel of the complexity. It seems well researched, but the writing is a bit pedestrian. But, as I said I enjoyed it!… (más)

This is a long read and pretty much a mystery as it is a thriller.

The one aspect that I really hated throughout the first half of the book was his overuse of acronyms for government agencies..he even has a glossary (incomplete as it is) devoted to these terms which are liberally sprinkled in the first half of the book but tapers off towards the end (thankfully).

Aside for the acronyms you are introduced to several stories and a multitude of characters...50% of the characters are forgettable but you don't know that when you encounter them and then are frustrated when an obscure character pops up hundreds of pages later.

The first 1/2 of the book up to and including the New Orleans action is pretty gripping with two major conflicts, a couple of story lines and mystery murders thrown in...but then the book starts to drag. it is like one clue/murder for a while, infighting, love story and you start wondering if this amazingly destructive mass murderer might actually be a good guy...it is that confusing.

The ending was less than satisfying, given the slow unveiling of clues...loose ends are tied up...sort of though some threads are left hanging. I did not read the first of the series and there were flashbacks that probably cleaned up a few loose threads from the previous book

Not a bad book but it was stale in the last 1/3 of the book for me.

Readable but sometimes overly complicated and involved, multi-layered story.
