I loved this! It felt fresh and expertly subverted my expectations. It was also strangely heartwarming, and the ending made me misty eyed. A perfect 1980s inspired slasher.
Super fun slasher, that subverts so many horror tropes. Jessica Guess is a super talented horror writer! She turned so much around on its head in this short novel but made it all work. Great fast-paced read. Could have stayed more in the present at times, rather of flashing back so much to fill in the backstory. Sometimes felt the present rampage was getting a bit short shifted in order to explain why the teens are ritualistic murderers. Even if the backstory is compelling.

Fun teen slasher book with a twist - overall, really enjoyed this book, Jessica Guess does a great job creating a fun slasher setting that follows slasher tropes with a fun twist that I didn't expect. The kill count is high and the killings are creative. Lots of nostalgia without feeling stale, the author weaves the nostalgia in to the story so that it makes sense & isn't just a top ten list of stuff from the past. Only problem for me is the same problem I tend to have with slashers, by the 3rd or 4th kill, I'm ready to get to the conclusion and not really interested in the remaining kills - that's nothing against the author, just my own short attention span.
