Noodlers in Missouri provides an in depth and complex look at the hand-fishing subculture of Missouri, and specifically the Noodlers Anonymous political movement that lead to a temporary legalization of noodling in Missouri in 2005 and 2006. Along the way, the book provides a solid and approachable introduction to many important sociological theories such as identity work, private and public patriarchy, everyday resistance vs. political organizing, and foodways as cultural signifiers. However, at times the author's writing is repetitive, especially in the final chapter and when describing quotes.
