Marcel Griaule (1898–1956)

The author wrote this book in a rather unique manner. Griaule writes in a dense, poetic manner. The author writes like he was a French Cormac McCarthy. The entire book of 308 pages consists of only three or four vignettes. This book was translated from French, so that may account for the singular prose. If you can find a copy of this book and end up reading it, I recommend reading it slowly. There a bit more than a dozen photographic plates which enhance the book.
Ethiopia, is a strange country with a deep history. This book gives the reader a feel for the texture of that land. The title comes from an inccident which the author witnessed where a man was executed by burning. I would recommend this book to those interested in Ethiopia or who enjoy reading travelogues.… (más)
