- Irina Grekova was the pen name of Elena Sergeevna Ventsel, née Dolgintsova. She was born in Reval (present-day Tallinn, Estonia), then part of the Russian Empire.
Her mother taught literature and her father taught mathematics. He began giving her private lessons as a child.
In 1923, at age 16, she entered Petrograd University (now Saint Petersburg State University), and graduated with a degree in physics and mathematics.
From 1935 to 1969, she worked at the Zhukovsky Air Force Engineering Academy, then from 1969 to 1987 at the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering. During this time, she wrote a book on probability theory. She married Dimitri Ventsel, a major general and head of the ballistics department at the Air Force Academy. She began writing fiction in 1962 under her pseudonym and became a member of the Union of Soviet Writers in 1967.
In 2003, her novel Hostess was adapted into the Russian film Bless the Woman. - Aviso de desambiguación
