Who loves going to a bookshop? Me 🙋‍♀️ and if there’s a comfy chair or even better, a coffee shop, I love it all the more. This author has had many years experience selling books and now holds up a mirror, so we can see his view of the browsers, buyers and time wasters. Honestly some of it left me sitting with my hand over mouth stunned by the behaviour! Ha, next time I go to a bookshop I feel like I should take the staff something nice, now that I’ve had a little glimpse into their working day. It’s hilarious and unbelievable at the same time! Short snippets of daily life in an Australian bookshop - have a read and a laugh but remember, next time you go into a bookshop, be on your best behaviour! If you’ve enjoyed the books by Shaun Bythell, you’ll enjoy this!… (más)

Definitely a bandwagon book; a riff on The Diary of a Bookseller that isn't nearly as good as the original. But it wasn't bad, either. A few of the entries were, I think, not only very Australian specific, but very micro-culturally specific to the pocket of Sydney where the bookshop is located. I had to ask MT to clarify the meaning of a few phrases, and there were a few that stumped even him. (An alternative explanation, as the author is a Ph.D student in Literature, is that the references were to very high brow titles that sailed over both our heads).

Most of the entires made me despair for humanity and civility in general, but there were some hilarious crackers. One entry in particular made me laugh out loud until I teared up. Unfortunately, the ratio of the funny/warn-hearted entries to just the 'eh' ones was not strong enough to bump my rating. Not bad at all, but not a shining star either.

This is a collection of interactions Greig had with people he had encountered while working at a bookshop in Sydney. Some are funny, some sad but most of them are weird in all sorts of ways.

It is meant to be light-hearted & it is.

Whilst this book is about the author's experiences working in a bookshop, It is for ANYONE who has ever worked in customer service. Over 100 stories, ranging from really nice to absolute horror that Stephen King couldn't imagine. These stories are short and will have you in stitches.
