Firstly if the 'ancient master of wind and lightening' made you think of Raiden (from Mortal Kombat) we really should be better friends. Second my copy of the paperback had so many simple errors on the backcover that I was forced to fix them or look moronic.

The backcover makes me think of D&D campaigns I did years ago because really I can't even remember the amount of times our DM said 'The fortess is nigh on impossible to infiltrate and the mage is deadly dark' as the end quest (though he meant that sometimes as a joke). The book itself however is really interesting. I liked the fact that Fulmin, aka Raiden, couldn't just take people willy-nilly from our world. He would have felt bad for ripping them away. Instead he rescued everyone from death and gave them a new lease on life.

Out of the five I think Sax is the coolest, Culter the second coolest (he gets points for his knife skills) and Lyca comes in a distant third. Flos acted so grandmotherly and Jason was almost a perfect example of a token minority stereotype--bitter, angry and paranoid everyone always assumed the worse because of how he looked.

This is another book that suffers from being too short. You get their beginnings (how they got there, met their teachers), ends (the end of their apprenticeship) and then they are thrust into the fight against Zaragosa. You don't see them train, and you don't get very much backstory at all. Fulmin also had an irritating way of stating the worst case scenario first....then mentioning they had no reason to worry over that because it couldn't happen without the second worst case scenario and so forth until we finally reached the Heroes actual mission.

Still considering the book is over 25 years old and to my knowledge the author (who is actually two people) never wrote again, I found the book enjoyable, light fare. Especially for anyone who likes Joel Rosenberg's 'Guardians of the Flame' series.

I liked this one. A group of people from this world are transported to another world and have to work together to save it, could have done with some more info on the training they went through but it's a fun read.
