This is a book by a Seattle writer, published by the local, small Ooligan press. Allison Green was born at the tail-end of the baby boom, and grew up feeling that she had missed out in being part of the hippie movement. As a young teenager, she read Brautigan's Trout Fishing in America and was enthralled. As an adult, she found the book more problematic; with racism and misogyny. Yest she still wanted to hold on to the parts of the book that had shaped her young womanhood.

The obvious answer to this problem: Road Trip. Green drives to Idaho with her partner, Arline, seeking out the camp site that Brautigan had camped in. Green's family was from Idaho, sot the trip combines literary and family memories. She reminisces about her childhood, describes her relationship with Arline, and talks about Brautigan and his strengths and shortcomings. You don't actually have to read Trout Fishing to enjoy this book. (I haven't). I think it might help to have a sort of Pacific Northwest, baby-boomer mentality.

At any rate, I did enjoy this book, and think I may look our for Trout Fishing in America.
