Gossage's eye describes the violence of the white American ruling class through a tight exploration of a residential area (the same one where both Gossage and Donald Rumsfeld used to live). At least to me, curated lawn and shiny surfaces are expression of the above mentioned violence. The second side of the book (you need to turn it upside down to look at it) is named Map of Babylon and its subtitle "photographs with qualities, but no real explanation" describes it pretty accurately.
