Joy Goodwin writes about theater and dance for The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The New York Sun. In addition, her journalism and essays have appeared in The New York Times Sunday Magazine, The Washington Post, and Elle. An Emmy Award-winning writer and producer, she has produced television for ABC, NBC, A&E, The History Channel, The Biography Channel, Lifetime, and ESPN. She has served as a commentator on NPR, ABC, CBS, NBC, CTV, and CBC. She is the director of a short film, "Dora" (2001) and has worked on both independent and PBS feature films. She holds a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard and previously worked as a domestic policy analyst at RAND.

The Second Mark, her first book, was a New York Times Notable Book and one of Sports Illustrated's Ten Best Books of the Year. She lives in New York City with her husband.
