Vestal Goodman is not part of the Stone-Campbell religious heritage, but I wanted to read her autobiography, as she (and the "Happy Goodman Family") was one of my favorite Southern Gospel singers. The book is an easy, enjoyable read.
There is a small connection with the Stone-Campbell religious heritage in that the Goodmans purchased a building from the Madisonville (Kentucky) Church of Christ to use as their church building.
Vestal describes the "miracle" of her new voice (89-90) and the inspiration for the song, "I Wouldn't Take Nothin' for My Journey Now' (131-132).
Persons who enjoy Southern Gospel music, and especially "The Happy Goodman Family," are apt to enjoy this book, as did I.
There are a number of b&w photos which enhance the book, but this is no index.… (más)
