A case of a real-life exorcism (not that I'm making claims here about whether or not she was possessed, or whether or not you CAN be possessed). But someone thought she was, and this is an account of what happened. If you find that kind of thing interesting, you will be extremely interested in this book.

Goodman believed that glossolalia was related to trance phenomenon, and ignores informant experience that doesn't fit her model. To give her some credit, she does report what the informant says before dismissing it as impossible. I recommend skipping this book entirely.

What's Hell like?
No, it's not very cold, or very hot, or full of biting spiders. It's a demon in your medulla, sodomizing your mind and soul with
'terrible horror'. I say that's not cool...

It's no secret that I adore Dr. Goodman and her work. This book is no exception. I truly appreciate the body of knowledge she has assembled in this one title, addressing mental illness, spiritual intrusions, modern methods of approaching both and tribal wisdom to distinguish the two. Dr. Goodman provides a bridge between healing approaches that is incredibly under appreciated.
