"Awakening" by Jackie Goldman

My Thoughts.....

I found 'Awakening' quite a good read that present us with a 'strong feminist as our protagonist' who was Tess Shapiro. I will say her life really takes a turn in that she was divorced from a no count husband, learns a little more about her father to finding out that 'her new lover was not who she thought he was.' Now all the time she vents by indulging in graphic drawings of comic book fantasy's that presented her in a glamorous alter ego.' What will happen for Tess when she finds out that this fantasy and the world around her comes crashing together around her in 'romance and political intrigue.' I will say that Tess's ex husband and new lover were highly no .... well I will stop here and say you will just have to pick this novel up to see how well this author brings it all together for the reader. The story will definitely give you another look at life as it was for Tess. I enjoyed by the end of this novel that definitely Tess Shapiro finally had awaken throwing out what she didn't need to hang on too and was seeing life as it really was for her with her two children.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of 'Awakening.'

El Pombero! by Jackie Goldman
Interest in this book is because I have an uncle who worked in the country-not sure if that's where he was born.
Also recall spirit things on their walls thus the Pombero legend makes sense to me. Starts with Heather married to Hal with a young child, Stella. She's just had a miscarriage, while recuperating she learns of her bff Jay brother Simon who died and she reads about the details.
Jay wants to visit the site where it happened and invites her to come but she's wrapped up in recuperating and getting a donor for a bone marrow transplant. She learns so many family secrets from her time with her mother...
They travel there and are able to meet with Simon's girlfriend. Love how they really connect with one another as they both suffering a major loss in life.
Turmoil and poisionous gases, very dangerous areas to be traveling. Lots of twists and turns and mysteries.
Love the very descriptive details of the area, so different than how I had imagined it. Love how it ends, didn't see that happening.
Would like to read more from this author. Love how majestic the picture is painted while at the National Park and the falls. Have heard of them, never visited.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
