This book tells the story of a colony of penguins living in Antarctica. It describes what the penguins do, how they work together, and how they survive. In the middle of the story humans enter the penguins land. They bring big machines and barrels of oil. It then talks about how humans affect the penguins environment and how the penguins are forced to adjust. I like this book because it shows the damage humans can do by bringing foreign objects into a animals habitat. This book would connect with the 5th grade DCI ESS3.C: Human Impacts on Earth Systems. I would use this book as an example of how humans can have a very negative affect on animals. I would use this book with other books that show how humans can impact animals, vegetation, and bodies of water.… (más)

A group of penguins is interested when humans come to their Antarctic home to drill for oil. After a while, though, the oil and litter the people produce begins to be harmful to the penguins. Eventually, a blizzard blows in and while the penguins are able to withstand it, the humans and their machinery are blanketed with snow.

This book is informational because it describes Antarctica and the penguins that live there. It also describes how penguins hunt and what they eat. The book also talks about the hurtful things that humans do when they come to a new place.
This book is written in an omniscient point of view that focuses on the penguins. This is effective because the book is targeting a young audience. This style would draw children into the story and help them remember what they read.
