Many of the halftaroth (the readings form the Prophets at the conclusion of the Torah reading in the synagogue on Sabbaths and holidays) were drawn from Isaiah, especially those that speak words of comfort and describe Israel's glorious future. Even the halftarah for Yom Kippur, which describes what a fast day should be like in order to be acceptable, was taken from the latter half of Isaiah's book. This popularity is well deserved. . . . In view of this, the Jewish Publication Society has decided to issue the Book of Isaiah in a separate volume as a further installment in the new translation of the Bible which the Society is sponsoring.
