Coyote and Sunrise live on a yellow school bus and have been driving around the country for the last five years. All this is due to the car accident that killed Coyote's two sisters and mother. Their life is carefree, full of books, traveling, and some delicious food. Although they choose to have no cell phones, Coyote still calls her Grandma every Saturday. Coyote usually borrows a phone from someone her Grandma's age. This week, the phone call just so happens to be one of the few that will rock her world. She learns the park where her sisters and mother buried their memory box just 5 days before their death is being ripped up to make room for a new road. Now, Coyote has to get back on her school bus and go to her hometown. However, they only have a few days before construction is scheduled to start. After the seemingly long ride back to her hometown, Coyote is able to dig up her memory box minutes before the construction starts. This ends a chapter in Coyote's life, helping her to get over her grief after seeing what was in her memory box. A few photos, and knick-knacks that remind her about everything she lost, but also everything that she has and will gain.

Dan Gemeinhart was really able to get the reader to feel Coyote's pain when she thinks about her past self. Her mom and two sisters have died and all she wants is to get them back. Unfortunately, that is impossible. This story is all about the grief and mourning she experiences. What's different about this type of grief is that she doesn't let it stop her from doing anything. If she needs to be in the moment she can be, in the snap of a finger. To all those who have suffered from a traumatic experience like this, this is the story for them. Especially those in the younger crowd, I would think would really be able to relate to Coyote's tale.
