Phillis Garrard

Meh. The start of the "Hilda" series was published (I believe) between 1929 and 1944, its publishing history thus overlapping (a bit on the later side) the publishing history of the Green Gables series, but Garrard's "Hilda" is in no wise comparable to Montgomery's "Anne Shirley." Although Garrard's "Hilda" is an attractive character, Hilda at School takes on too didactic a tone which leaves me completely uninterested in reading the rest of the series.
