In the beginning this book was difficult to get in to because the author intertwines Tagalog language with English throughout the entire novel. I thought Angel de la Luna and the 5th Glorious Mystery was beautifully written and unlike any book I've ever read before. Galang's (author) writing style is deep and artsy. It's clear to see that she wants to bring her readers in and feel as if they are with Angel de la Luna as she experiences all the emotions assimilated with losing her father, losing her mother, and then leaving her home country to experience "the American Dream."

I love the cultural aspect of this novel-- Galang brings the Philippine culture to life through language, food, and music. Overall I'm glad I stuck with it and completed the book.
