Thanks Netgalley! 3.5 stars
Cons: there was a flashback side plot that felt under-developed and that I'm not sure I completely understand.
Also, the first 1/2 is a very slow burn and I almost dnf'd more than once, but..
Pros: if you make it past the 1/2 way point it starts coming together and getting tense quickly!
There were several side plots to follow and try to figure out if they are connected to the main storyline.

Just plain amazing how Furniss wrote this...before the Covid pandemic! Who knew back then, what was coming---no, not as drastic as the story in this novel but the potential elements for disaster continue to be around us now and this novel certainly provides the reader with a lot of "what if" kind of thinking. This was quite a thriller of a book in fascinating as well as sickening detail but Marlene is a "super mother" as it turns out. Although I was NOT thrilled with the ending, at least we know she has a special bag with her from the doctor and immediately finding her niece leaves the reader with the thought that they will somehow, maybe, make it back to a rescue situation.… (más)

The best kind of mysteries are ones that are centered around a large, spooky house, possibly haunted by ghosts, but definitely haunted by the past. Enter the newest thriller, The Last to Know by Jo Furniss. Not only is there a house set on medieval property, there are local legends and lore, family secrets, old-fashioned detective work, investigative journalism, and so much more.

Jo weaves a marvelous drama, from the histories of an infamous family in a small town to the perilous beginnings of a romantic relationship set in a war-torn country, you’ll travel the world within these 318 pages. Throughout all of this, you’re witness to the formidable and intricate bond between mother and son, father and daughter, parent and child.

Numerous surprises and revelations at every turn make this novel a page-turner that you will not want to put down.

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing for my copy. The opinions are my own.

A fresh narrative voice weaves together an unforgettable story.

A "must read." I kept reading later and later into the night, vowing to put it down at the first lull in the story. All the Little Children became an all-nighter. It was worth every lost wink of sleep.
