Dr. Forest has done a very nice job adapting his lectures to book format. The Terrorism Lectures provides a comprehensive and well written overview of a problem that is as old as civilization itself.

The reading level of the book is at the collegiate undergraduate level and provides an excellent beginning point for someone interested in exploring the complexities of terrorism.

This book begins with a treatment of definitions and historical frameworks and then moves to a very valuable look at context, motivations and facilitating factors for terrorism. The third section deals with ideologies and strategies of terrorist groups and the book concludes with a few chapters dealing with the worst weapons of terrorism (WMD/CBRN, suicide bombing etc.).

I look forward to reading his next book on countering terrorism. He mentions it in the concluding chapter of this book. If it is as well done as the Terrorism Lectures then it will end up in my personal library for sure.

A comprehensive if somewhat pedestrian monograph of Boko Haram in Africa and how this organization came into being. The author makes sensible policy recommendations in the conclusion, but I would not go so far as to say they are original.

A good first step for someone who knows nothing about this terrorist group, but if the reader is looking for an approach more grounded in political science theory then I would continue looking.
