A blend of informative nonfiction and narrative history, this is a magisterial work. It never gets boring, the characters introduced are colorful. Jefferson and Adams, former friends, battle it out in the 1800 election. But other titans of early American history get the mention such as Washington Hamilton, Madison. Like all of Ferling’s book, well researched and eloquently written.

Even during the peace talks, the United States might have emerged from the war far weaker and more vulnerable than it did were it not for adept American diplomatic efforts at war termination.]… (más)
