Corey Feldman

Coreography is a stunning, if not sometimes hard to read, exposé of the dark side of childhood stardom that somehow focuses on the impact of mental illness and addiction while ending on a high note: recovery. Not only from drugs and alcohol, from career highs and lows, relationship highs and lows, but from the affect of an abusive childhood, separate and apart from his film and music careers.

This book is a must-read for the Teen Bop, Tiger Beat generation, of which I am proudly a part. I bought into “Corey-mania” as a young girl and plastered my walls, admittedly, mostly with pictures of Corey Haim, who, unfortunately, never penned his story. In a way, I think Corey Feldman’s tribute casts more shade on his lifelong buddy than redeems his erratic behavior, but it’s not my place to judge how he copes with his loss. All I’m saying is, there are things I wish I didn’t know about the “other” Corey, akin to how Leaving Neverland effectively put a nail in my Michael Jackson-era idolatry. And yes, Corey put in his two cents on Michael Jackson, who, again, I just don’t want to think of as an abuser, but against whom there is a mountain of evidence that reeks of something covered up. Corey insists he was never abused by him, but their relationship ended on strange terms that make me wonder, as it seems he did, what, exactly, was the root cause of a lifetime friendship in ruins.

Highly recommended for fans of 80’s and 90’s iconic films: Stand by Me, Gremlins, The Goonies, and The Lost Boys. I enjoyed it so much that I bought a copy for my son, who also can’t wait to read it. Add “author” to Corey Feldman’s impressive resume, because he has done an exemplary job writing his compelling story.… (más)
