A very enjoyable read

Set in mid century Yorks hire about a blue color family and struggles they have enduring real life is not my typical read. It was a free book through Kindle unlimited and sounded like a good change. I am very glad I read it, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and will continue with the series. It was very well written and edited without and discrepancies which I was very happy about. If your thinking you "might" like it then you will love it.

An OK read

Gave 3 stars as I felt the book kind of drug on and really didn't have any spectacular page turning parts. I did not care for the ending at all, after 6 books I was looking for something greater.

The story begons in 1827 when because his parents died when he was young Edward Urwin is living in poverty with his uncle andaunt in Birminham. Until a man, Henry Beechworth, takes an interest in him. And his life starts to change.
Just about kept my interest.

Well written book about under-age kids struggling before the great war, then joining up to "fight before Christmas for glory" as promised by the propaganda.
Of course, as we all know, the war was not full of glory, but mud, grit, death and horror, and the author very aptly keeps the grit, grime and soot, without glossing over the facts.
You feel as though you could close your eyes and envision the setting and scenario that this book takes place in.
