Top material. Read in 2016. Will be back to write a proper review later.
It’s September 2018 now and I happened to stumble over some reviews - surprising ones that is - of the book.
There were quite a few 🤔 one star reviews ... seems a little harsh. I feel the plot idea and its development was well executed. Okay, i understand that for some it may have been too objective and the characters perhaps a bit lacking in emotional expression. But again, I don’t feel the book needs to be trashed that bad. Sometimes I think readers forget how hard it is to write a novel where everything is just perfectly done. Well, that is just my humble opinion.… (más)

Falconer, Craig R. Last Man Standing. Kindle, 2022. Earthburst Saga 1.
Craig Falconer’s Last Man Standing gets off to a good start, but it becomes less believable as it goes along. Ray is working on a dangerous experiment in an isolated module on a large space station. His experiments have required him to be physically and electronically isolated for days. When he completes his work, he discovers that everyone else on the station died within the last day or two. Nor can he raise anyone on the ground. Ray has to learn how to survive on a station that usually takes dozens of people to run and find the cause of all the deaths. So far so good. But then the real plot starts and things go downhill. To explain why would require spoilers. So, you are on your own. 3.5 stars.… (más)

Uhh... I only got about 30 minutes in and had to bail. Starts off as an alien conspiracy theorist's wet dream - "I KNOW that I can prove that the gummint is covering up the truth about aliens if I could just get my hands on a top-secret folder like that robber that just crashed into me has in his hands."

I could put up with that if a short story or novella, but not a 23 hour long audiobook.

Aliens exist, the government knows, and Dan McCarthy just found the proof. When Dan McCarthy stumbles upon a folder containing evidence of the conspiracy to end all conspiracies - a top-level alien cover-up - he leaks the files without a second thought. The incredible truth revealed by Dan's leak immediately captures the public's imagination, but Dan's relentless commitment to exposing the cover-up and forcing disclosure quickly earns him some enemies in high places. For his whole life, Dan McCarthy has searched for a reason to believe. Now that he finally has one, he might soon wish he didn't.... Not Alone is a stand-alone tale of contact and disclosure for the 21st century.… (más)
