Trumped up reminiscence of Robert Scott's doomed south polar expedition. Full of inaccuracies and liberties with the actual facts. Lots also left out in order for the entire thing to appear in a better, more heroic, light (Read Apsley Cherry-Garrard's biography [b:Cherry: A Life of Apsley Cherry-Garrard|1265536|Cherry A Life of Apsley Cherry-Garrard|Sara Wheeler|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1182363171s/1265536.jpg|1254417] for a more accurate view). Mountevans gives himself a larger and more noble roll in the entire affair than he actually had. He was largely untouchable by the time he wrote this due to his distinguished military career.

Incredibly understated story of endurance. Teddy Evans was with Scott to within a fortnight of the South Pole in 1912 when he and two others were not selected for the final push. The story of the expedition from one or survived - just - and who was close to Scott.
