Is this real? It says it is, but that doesn't give it a great deal of authority.

Billy the Kid comes to us through history as about the roughest character in the Old West. He killed countless people until Pat Garrett shot him in the back. Now, we are told that he really didn't die. His friends just pretended to bury him until they could nurse him back to health and put him on a train to Wichita.

This is told to a reporter in Billy's latter days. He doesn't deny killing people, but just not nearly and primarily in a fight to clean up the old New Mexico territory.

This is a transcript of some tapes, so don't expect great literature. Still, the story isn't bad.
