I believe this book fills a needed niche, but I found it a bit short on art, and long on philosophy. There are many books that cove the history of animal rights and welfare, but none other that cover the history of how art has related to animal rights philosophy. I found much of what the author said about art to be great, I just felt I wanted more art.

I bought this as a text for my first year History of Western Art class but it's pretty handy to have around still, several years later.
