Ah, the difference between the thing itself and the analysis of the thing! This is a very competent series of articles on Cash's classic, which emerged from a symposium held 50 years after the publication of "The Mind of the South". It is does point out many of the ways in which Cash was wrong, and some of the ways in which he was right, and it emphasizes "The Mind'''s role as a study in a myth about history, rather than pure history itself (if such is possible). But this book also illustrates the difference between modern academic historians and a brilliant non-academic who blended history, sociology and journalism, using a unique style.
