Biografía breve
Gaston Dorren is a linguist, journalist and polyglot. He speaks Dutch, Limburgish, English, German, French and Spanish, and reads Afrikaans, Frisian, Portugese, Italian, Catalan, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and Luxembourgish. He's the author of 2 books in Dutch - Nieuwe Tongen (New Tongues) on the language of migrants and Taaltoerisme (Language Tourism) on which Lingo is based - and an app, the Language Lover's Guide to Europe. When not writing he likes to perform songs - in several languages of course.

My interest in picking up this book was strictly light entertainment, particularly in regards to the foibles of English, though Dorren gives the same treatment to the other nineteen languages he examines. If there is a running theme below the mission of providing a snappy introduction into what makes each of these 20 languages interesting, it's how language can become a bone of contention. If you come away feeling that Dorren's treatment is too slight for your purposes, don't worry; he provides an extensive list of further reading.… (más)

Wonderful descriptions of the world’s twenty most-used languages, with history about how they developed and comparisons of their grammars. As an idiot single-language speaker I’m still really interested in other languages and this was a treat.

Interesting book. If you like languages and/or linguistics, you will like this book. The book has 60 chapters and each one tells a story or anecdote about a different Indo-European language. There were several languages that I had never heard of before. My only wish would be that it included a few non-Indo-European languages such as Arabic, Coptic and Egyptian. Would have loved to see what he would have discovered about them. Highly recommend this book.

A good book for any amateur language lover/linguist.

The section on Esperanto was a little pessimistic and maybe not entirely correct, but hey I'm no Esperantist... Since I read the Norwegian translation it could just have been a weird translation that skewed some original sense of humour.

Otherwise a good read indeed.
