This book is great to introduce children to the importance of different cultures. This story goes through different cultures and give a glimpse of what the cook may look like to different people. This book is fairly long and has a paragraph for almost every page. It may be too much for young readers to try, but it would be a great book to introduce into the classroom. I think children get learn a since of appreciation for other people that may not look like them or may eat different foods than them. It is important for kids to understand that food is a part of different cultures.… (más)

I abosulty loved this book. In my opinion this book really emphasis on the cultural backgrounds there is in America. I think it's a real eye opener for students to know their neigbors and know that everyone is different. I think this could be a great read out loud book but also a good book for a small group assignment. The books language was very mellow in the beginin but got engaging towards the middle of the book. The book has almost a paragraph for each page, which could be exhausting for younger children. I think the book is aimed for older students. The book was written in first language. The sister was looking for her brother and could not find him in any of his neighbors house. I think this really made the climax rise when the sister could not find her brother and she would stop and eat rice from different cultures. This engages the reader and makes the reader curious where could her brother be? The illustrations of the book are there and show the characters but not so much the rice. I think what makes the student imagine the rice is the written words. This book really open students minds to the different cultures around the world. The central message is that no matter where you are their is still a little similarty between humans!… (más)
