Daniel Doan, called a "preeminent outdoorsman" by the Boston Globe, hiked the White Mountains for nearly 70 years while writing novels, short stories, a history of the Indian Stream Republic, the memoir Our Last Backpack, and two hiking guides. His daughter Ruth Doao MacDougall grew up steeped in mostrar más her father's twin passions for the woods and the written word. Also a novelist, MacDougall lives in Center Sandwich, New Hampshire.
