Very dense and detailed in the material. World War II is one my of my favorite historical topics, but I think this would be a difficult book for someone unfamiliar with general knowledge about the Nazi party and various parts. The author spent little time with backstory and the reader needed to be somewhat familiar with names, conflicts, etc. But, this allowed for a more in depth exploration about the "in's and out's" of the Gestapo, which I appreciated.

Finalement texte peu vieilli et qui demeure pertinent, principalement sur les débuts et la fin de cette organisation crapoteuse et délirante.

A good book on the organisation of the GESTAPO, it includes details that I hadn't seen or known of before. It also gives a very clear outline of the birth and early years, which many books gloss over. It is important to know that the Author was French so the book was originally in French and then translated. Unfortunately there are parts were you can tell, but overall that isn't a problem. The story of the GESTAPO in France is very well told but for the rest of Europe it's more an implied story. You find out the major personalities within the GESTAPO, particularly those in France. For a man who was imprisoned by the GESTAPO it is very evenhanded. If your interested in the subject, read this book.… (más)

Delarue's a is fine book of the history of the profession of Executioner. He explores in detail the intricacies and details of this disreputable job. He examines how it came into being, how it serves a role in society and ultimately how it changed along with the changes in the nature of the state and attitudes towards capital punishment.
