A slender volume in the 'Shire Albums' series, this book offers the merest introduction to the subject. The text outlines the position of narrow gauge railways for industry in the overall span of railway history, though for those who already know the salient points of that history it will seem to be rather lightweight. The photographs are, however, an interesting mix of historical and contemporary, and show the wide range of different systems, locomotives and equipment that narrow gauge industrial railways used. Perhaps the best part of the book is the bibliography and gazetteer, although this is now ten years out of date and should be supplemented with other sources if the reader is to use this book as a practical guide.… (más)
