Lots and lots of interesting trivia as well as lots and lots of dull and boring facts. very well written and for the most part, fascinating. I was reading along and came to, on page 478, the following quote which I chuckled over for a good portion of the evening:

"Boulder Island produces, according to Grewingk, 'earthcream (!), or edible earth, consisting of pure gypsum without infusoria.' This statement needs explanation."

That is the kind of writing I live for. A couple of sentences which absolutely made my day! His explanation for glacial epochs on page 459 is also a treat....… (más)
