George E. Curry (1947–2016)

George Edward Curry was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on February 23, 1947. He received a degree in history from Knoxville College in 1970. He worked for Sports Illustrated for two years before The St. Louis Post-Dispatch hired him as a general-assignment reporter in 1972. He became the Washington mostrar más correspondent for The Chicago Tribune in 1983 and was later the newspaper's New York bureau chief. In 1993, he became editor in chief of Emerge. After the magazine ended, he was named editor in chief of the National Newspaper Publishers Association and wrote a weekly syndicated column. He was the author of Jake Gaither: America's Most Famous Black Coach and the editor of the anthology The Best of Emerge Magazine. He died of a heart attack on August 20, 2016 at the age of 69.
