Harold is the family dog. Beloved, treasured, snuck treats when possible, but he's not the only fur kid on the block anymore. Enter, Prince...his new...best friend? Not exactly. Introducing a puppy into a family has it's challenges, but they can certainly be unique if there is already another dog in the mix. You have to make sure they BOTH feel loved, no one feels overlooked, and jealousy doesn't reign supreme, or you can be in for many "surprises" along the way. Harold learns the hard way at first and just when he's beginning to think he'll forever be in the doghouse, things take a turn for the better, and love, even from his scruffy little sidekick, prevails. An entertaining, yet engaging story for young readers and those simply young at heart!

I enjoyed this book for numerous reasons. One is that I love Hawaiian culture. My dream is to live in Hawaii and I wanted to emerge myself in a book that had to involve some aspect of Hawaiian history. Second, this book is extremely educational. Not only does it talk about the background of Duke Kahanamoku, it talks about historical events and monumental events in the Olympics. It pushes readers through the difficult racial challenges Duke faced when competing in the Olympics as a Native Hawaiian. One thing that suprised me was that the book was quite long becuase it was so jam packed with educational moments. Those moments include Hawaiian language, world events such as WW1 and the development of race culture in the early 1900's in the United States.… (más)
