Audio version. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Although obviously written for children, it was well-imagined and well-plotted. The world created by the author is consistent - there were no major gaps in logic that kicked me out of the story. The characters were a little obvious, with the bad guys being suitably evil and the good guys being pretty much instantly likeable, but I enjoyed Emily's struggles to understand the events around her and to choose between her heart's desire and the moral high road. The twist at the end was a lot of fun and sets up the next book. I expect I'll read it, too.

I read an advance reader's copy via netgalley to my 7 and 9 year old boys. They very much enjoyed it and await the sequel. It was hard to stop reading since they wanted to know what comes next. The book itself is engaging enough but depends too much on pop culture references, so tends occasionally to trip up those who haven't been utterly immersed in a specific genre of films. It will be somewhat opaque to immigrants etc. I trust the final kindle edition will be better formatted than the galley.

Another that I read before I became active on goodreads.

This one was messed up. Honestly if I had tried to read it now after being introduced to so many wonderful books, it probably would have ended up as a DNF.

Emily gets drawn into a three-way war between humans and two different groups of faeries in Victorian London. Strangely, many of the faeries she meets hints that they have met before even though she is certain she has never seen or talked to any faeries before. When her little brother is kidnapped, Emily will do anything to get him back.
