A Christmas Sampler by Crawford There are many stories in this collection from all over the world and from all walks of life. What each one brings is faith,hope and the giving spirit around the holidays, no matter what their station in life is. Really liked Twain and Henry Thoreau's works on their thoughts of the holiday and in their writings what the holiday means to them.
This is an excellent collection: since the stories are all Christmas-themed, the time frames and styles of writing can diverge greatly while still seeming to tie together. Some stories are sentimental ("How Claus Made the First Toy"), religious ("No Room at the Inn", "Strange Story of a Traveler to Bethlehem"), and some are humorous ("Christmas Every Day").
Favorites: "A Christmas Carillon" An independent man angles for a Christmas invitation and discovers that the only people obliged to take you in at Christmas are family.
"Christmas is a Sad Season for the Poor" A morose elevator operator invites Christmas cheer by his demeanor, and ends up with too many cocktails and presents.… (más)
