First in the series. Follows Mark Manning a reporter in Chicago. He's been reporting on the disappearance of an heiress for 7 years. Her estate is about to be closed with her presumed death. But Manning doesn't believe she's dead and is out to prove it.

This one has Mark looking into the death of a local business woman. She fell from the top of a two story ladder in her library. She was the head of a company that due to merge with another local business. But She had other plans for the merged company. She also was not very well liked from her husband to the window dresser as well as one of the reporters at Mark's paper. Has kind of a surprise ending.

I'm not a big fan of stories told in the ever present present (What is that called?!) Any way, I find it rather distracting to read.

However, once I got past that little problem, I found the mystery and the characters to be engaging and interesting; well worth my time to read this book. I'll keep an eye out for more of Craft's stuff in future reading.
