This started out with a solid premise that I was quite excited about: a BBW heroine who is a bit different and insecure, and a big Misunderstanding with the handsome, popular hero. There were enough of my favorite tropes that I overlooked some of the anachronisms and modern vernacular, but I feel like it didn’t quite stick the landing: I HATE books where the chubby heroine loses weight and becomes all brazen and confident. Sure, the hero is disappointed in her weight loss, but it’s still presented as a positive thing and the heroine’s personality changes a bit with it. Not my favorite story arch. Also, I think everyone was a bit hard on Alex. Sure, he made a mistake, but it was an innocent one, and he tried to rectify it. Though he could have been more upfront about what happened with Clarice and Millie when he tried to apologize. Overall, I enjoyed it, and I am interested in the next book too, even though I usually only read Favored Trope HRs.… (más)
